The 7 SEO Mistakes UK Roofers Make

Mistake #1: Treating 'roofing' as one keyword

Flat-roof replacement, tile repair, ridge repointing, guttering, chimney pointing, leadwork — they're six different jobs with six different price points and six different customer searches. One 'roofing services' page targets none of them properly.

Mistake #2: No NFRC trust signal

National Federation of Roofing Contractors members are the consumer-trusted tier in UK roofing. Most NFRC-member roofers hide the badge in the footer.

The fix: Display the NFRC member badge top-right of every page. Link to your public NFRC profile. Most non-NFRC roofers can't compete with that visible trust.

Mistake #3: No storm-damage emergency page

Storm-damage searches spike for 48 hours after weather events. 'Emergency roofer {city}' is high-intent, high-margin work. Most roofers don't have a dedicated page or any way to capture it fast.

The fix: Build an emergency roofer page per city. Connect a CRM to weather APIs. Send pre-storm SMS to past customers. We've baked this into the Growth Engine.

Mistake #4: Generic stock before/afters

A perfect roof photo from a stock library proves nothing. Patients/customers can spot stock at 50 paces and assume you can't show your own work.

The fix: Use timestamped photos of your own jobs. Include the location ('completed in BS1, August 2024'). Builds local trust faster than any badge.

Mistake #5: Hiding the guarantee period

10/15/20/25-year tile guarantees are a major closer most {primary_kw}s underuse. Bury it on a page nobody reads and you lose to the firm that puts '25-year tile guarantee' in their hero.

The fix: Lead with the longest guarantee you genuinely offer. Specifics close: '25-year tile guarantee, 10-year workmanship cover, fully insured to £5M' beats 'high-quality work'.

Mistake #6: Missing public liability cover amount

£2m PL cover sounds the same as £5m to a non-roofer customer until they need to claim. Specific numbers build serious-operator trust. 'Fully insured' converts nobody.

The fix: Display public liability + employers liability cover amounts in the hero. Show your insurance certificate as a downloadable PDF if you can.

Mistake #7: No FAQ schema

Customers Google specific questions ('how long does a new roof last', 'how do I know if my roof needs replacing'). FAQ schema gets you into AI Overviews above the Map Pack.
