We've audited hundreds of UK joiners websites. The same seven mistakes show up every time. Fixing them is the difference between a site that sits idle and one that puts booked work on your calendar.

Mistake #1: One 'services' page for everything
Fitted wardrobes, bespoke staircases, kitchen carpentry, garden joinery, doors, skirting — these are different customers with different price expectations. A single 'joinery services' page wins nothing.
The fix: Build a dedicated portfolio + landing page per build type. Fitted wardrobes {city}, bespoke staircases {city}, kitchen carpentry {city}. See Joiners London.
Mistake #2: Generic portfolio with no postcode references
'Recently completed staircase' performs much worse than 'Bespoke oak staircase, SE15'. Customers want a joiner who's worked their area.
The fix: Add the postcode area to every project. Include the timeline ('4 weeks design, 5 days install'). Builds local trust + ranks for area-specific searches.
Mistake #3: Hourly pricing for kitchens
Customers comparing kitchen-carpenter quotes don't want to think 'how fast can he work'. They want a fixed price for the unit. Hourly rates also encourage scope creep on your side and price negotiation on theirs.
The fix: Quote per m³ or per unit on bigger jobs. Use Service + Offer schema with priceRange. Customers commit faster to fixed prices.
Mistake #4: Missing timber species and origin
FSC oak vs European walnut vs kiln-dried pine — premium customers care. Stock 'real wood' photos lose to a clear materials list with provenance.
The fix: Add a 'materials' page listing every timber you use, FSC certifications, supplier names. Differentiates you from chain-store competitors.
Mistake #5: No CAD or sketch-upload form
Most joinery enquiries arrive with a rough sketch on the customer's phone. A form that lets them upload a photo + measurements speeds the quote and captures the lead before competitors.
The fix: Add a multi-file upload form. Photo + measurements + budget = qualified lead. Reply within 24 hours and you win 60%+ of these.
Mistake #6: Generic 'installation timeline' answer
Customers planning a fitted kitchen want certainty. 'We'll let you know' loses to 'design week, 4-week lead-time, 5 days on site, sign-off in 6 weeks'.
The fix: Build a process page with realistic timelines. Map the customer's journey. Specifics close where vagueness drives them to the next quote.
Mistake #7: Missing Service schema + portfolio markup
Schema.org's Service + Offer + ImageObject markup with priceRange surfaces fitted-kitchen quotes in Google rich results. Almost no UK joiner uses it.
The fix: Add Service, Offer, ImageObject schema to every portfolio piece. We build it in by default — see industries/joiners.
The shortcut: get all seven done for you
SEO for a joiner business is a full-time job. You shouldn't be doing it.
