We've audited hundreds of UK dentists websites. The same seven mistakes show up almost every time. Fixing them is the difference between a site that sits idle and a site that puts booked work on your calendar every week.
This guide is written for working dentists. If you'd rather we just fix it for you, jump straight to our dentists marketing service or pick your city: London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol or 100+ more.
Mistake #1: One generic 'services' page targeting 'dentist'
Each treatment (Invisalign, dental implants, composite bonding, teeth whitening, cosmetic dentistry) is a different commercial search with different price expectations and different customer journeys. One catch-all page wins none.
The fix: Build a dedicated landing page per treatment per city. Invisalign {city}, dental implants {city}, composite bonding {city}. Each one optimised end-to-end. See Dentists London for the structure.
Mistake #2: CQC rating hidden
CQC (Care Quality Commission) ratings are the only regulator-backed quality mark UK patients trust. CQC Outstanding belongs above the fold — most practices bury it in About.
The fix: Display the CQC rating badge + link to your public CQC inspection report in the hero. Same for GDC registration on every dentist's profile.
Mistake #3: No individual dentist profiles
Patients Google specific dentists. A page per dentist (name, photo, GDC number, year qualified, specialism, languages, before/after gallery) converts massively better than 'Meet the team'.
The fix: Build a profile page per practitioner. Lead with name + GDC number + photo. Patients want to know who'll treat them.
Mistake #4: Stock-photo before/afters
Stock images of perfect teeth do nothing for trust. GDC rules permit dental before/afters when consent is recorded. Most practices don't bother.
The fix: Get model-release/consent forms signed. Show real cases with the dentist's name + the treatment + the timescale. Drops the customer's fear barrier.
Mistake #5: No private-vs-NHS comparison
Patients searching '{city} private dentist' often arrive confused. A clear comparison page (waiting times, treatment range, materials, hygienist access, finance options) wins the trust + the booking.
The fix: Build a dedicated comparison page. Be honest about the trade-offs. Builds authority + ranks for 'private dentist {city}' queries.
Mistake #6: Hiding finance options
Most UK patients don't realise dental treatments are £100-£250/month on 0% finance. Hiding pricing loses bookings.
The fix: Build a finance page covering Tabeo, Medenta, V12 etc. Show typical monthly costs for top treatments. Converts the affordability worry into a consultation.
Mistake #7: No FAQ schema on treatment pages
Patients Google specific questions ('how long does Invisalign take', 'is dental implant painful'). FAQ schema gets you into AI Overviews + featured snippets above the regular results.
The fix: Add FAQPage JSON-LD to every treatment page. We build this in by default — see the rich results on Dentists Bath or Dentists Cambridge.
The shortcut: get all seven done for you
If reading this list has made you want to close the laptop — that's the right reaction. SEO for a dentist business is a full-time job. You shouldn't be doing it.
That's exactly what we do at DigiSurf for dentists — fix all seven, then run the engine that keeps the phone ringing. 30 days free while you trial it.
